Planes can land on Lake Norman too!
Did you know that I have watched at least 3 or 4 planes land on Lake Norman the past few years?
It happens quite a bit actually!
Just last summer, the Red Bull Sea Plane did many landings and take-offs while taking pictures at the big "tie-ups" near the Sand Bar.
It was such an amazing thing to see.
There are also at least 3 or 4 sea plane owners on the lake that go out often during the summer. I have personally witnessed one in Denver and one in Mooresville, parking at their homes!
This past weekend was an incredible experience, because not only did the plane land on the water, but it landed to come see my friends and I while we were at the island! My friends and I had been hanging out on an island, watching some jet skis race. As the plane started to drive over to us, we were in awe and started taking pictures and video.
After the plane pulled up onto the shore, we met the pilot (and owner). He explained to us that it was his "experimental plane" or similar to an Ultralight plane. Very small and very cool!

Now that just looks like fun! To be able to enjoy flying then take it to the water.
I've seen that happen a number of times when I lived on Long Island. It's a very neat thing to watch.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
My husband fishes and area that has a bar waterfront. A plane just like this one frequents the bar. One day my husband was chatting with the planes owner and he was obviously tipsey. He told him he lost his drivers license DUI but he could fly drunk!
That would be a lot of fun! Too bad we can't catch a ride!
Sandy - You seem to have a interest for airplanes and maybe more, I have decided to feature your post because it make me all fuzzy in side. I really love airplanes and wish sometimes I were a bird, but that's another story!
