Did You Know That Lake Norman has a Cultural Au Pair Program? 
What is an Au Pair?
Someone who comes to live with you and your family, usually from another country, to help you raise your children and help with household chores. There are already about 20 Au Pairs in the Lake Norman area that are matched with host families. As a part-time ESL (English as a 2nd language) teacher, I see and teach most of the Au Pairs in the Lake Norman area at Mitchell Community College (Mooresville location).
According to the article in the Lake Norman Navigator by Megan Sprague, Over 60,000 families take advantage of the program in the US. Some busy working parents would rather rely more on an Au Pair than a daycare for their children's needs.
The kids get more of a brother or sister that lives with the family and helps with the children's responsibilities. According to Karen Giordana, the local Cultural Care coordinator, "Au Pairs can work 45 hours a week, and up to 10 hours a day".
It's really helpful to have someone living with you to take care of the kids and the Au Pairs are really glad to be here in the US and to learn about our culture as well. Whether you have 1 or 3 kids, the per hour price that an Au Pair makes is really not too much for having an extra helping hand!
Where do the Au Pairs in Lake Norman come from and how old are they?
They come from South America, Germany, Sweden, Poland, and South Africa. They are between the ages of 18 and 26.

Great information and looks like a wonderful program. Disney has 3 movies out with Au Pair as the background and of course the love sets in. Nice post for your area!
Sandy, this is so interesting. I suspect we have Au Pairs that help out families here in Arizona, but I always think of them being in the homes of those that have a lot of money, or big homes, or in Beverly Hills. ;-)
What a neat thing.I have so often wanted 6 or 8 more pairs of hands. We have 4 children so you know what hectic days can be. By the way did Moms friend call you yet?
Teri - We do have some big expensive home neighborhoods on the lake here, but I know that only a couple of the au pairs live with host families there.
Laura - 4 kids!!! wow! I want some of my own, but I have waiting until I could get my career going first. But 4 sounds like a career on it's own! No, haven't heard from her yet
